Milorad Novovic qualified with a BSc (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Podgorica in Montenegro in 1992.

He went on to study the effects of microstructure on chip formation process in machining of austempered ductile iron as a part of the MRes course at the Faculty of Technology and Metallurgy, The University of Belgrade, followed by the PhD course in Metallurgy and Materials, University of Birmingham on the effects of microstructure and prestraining on ductile‑to‑brittle transition in C‑Mn weld metal.

After the award of a PhD degree, Milorad has continued to work in in Birmingham in the Fracture and Fatigue group of the School of  Metallurgy and Materials.
