Neil is an Associate Professor in the school of Metallurgy and Materials. He is head of the EPS Foundation Year, and the school lead for Equality, Diversity and Inclusion.

Neil is a member of the Transforming Access and Student Outcomes in Higher Education (TASO) sector network. He is particularly interested in evidence-based practice in science education and social justice approaches to education to improve students' experience of transition to university and develop their sense of belonging.

Biography

Neil Drury graduated with a BA in Physics from the University of Oxford in 2000. After this, he taught Physics overseas before completing a PGCE (2002) at the University of Oxford. Neil taught in secondary schools in Oxfordshire and Birmingham where he was a Physics teacher and senior leader for 17 years.

Neil then worked for the Institute of Physics supporting schools and teachers in areas of significant social deprivation and supporting early career Physics teachers.

In 2020, Neil Drury was appointed lecturer in the School of Metallurgy and Materials at the University of Birmingham. Neil teaches Physics on the Engineering and Physical Sciences Foundation Year which progresses students from a diverse range of backgrounds onto undergraduate degrees across the college.
