Biography Dr Tobias’ interest in Operations Management can be traced back to the mid 1980s at Lucas Industries where he first became involved with using discrete simulation and various systems modelling approaches in Production Engineering. He moved to the University of Birmingham in 1988 to teach on the various fore-runners of our MSc programme in Advanced Engineering Management. He retired in 2020 to focus on his continuing research within the Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education. Teaching Systems Thinking Operations Management Systems Engineering Simulation Research Skills Management Information Systems Research Dr Tobias researches the application of Systems Thinking to the railways, specialising in: Network Performance Analysis and Design Planning, Timetabling, Scheduling and Simulation Modelling; and Integrated Transport Systems and Logistics.
