Amy Tansell is a postgraduate researcher on the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Topological Design, under the supervision of Professor Rosemary Dyson and Dr Galane Luo (Mathematics) and Lauren Thomas-Seale (Mechanical Engineering).

Qualifications

  • MSci in Mathematics, University of Birmingham, 2020

Biography

Amy is a postgraduate researcher on the EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Topological Design where she undertakes interdisciplinary research between Mathematics and Engineering with supervision from Dr Rosemary Dyson (School of Mathematics) and Dr Lauren E. J. Thomas-Seale (Department of Mechanical Engineering).

Amy graduated from the University of Birmingham with an MSci in Mathematics in 2020, where she began to mathematically model three-dimensional plant root growth in her master’s year.

Throughout her PhD she aims to exploit the analogies between plant growth and the creation of a 3D printed component to provide a means for engineers to visualise additive manufacture as a process of growth – a bottom-up process – and, thus, extend the creativity and efficiency of Design for Additive Manufacture.
