Noha Attia is a Teaching Fellow in Arabic Language at the Department of Modern Languages and the Arabic Language Coordinator at languages for All. She started her teaching career at the Arabic Language Institute at the American University in Cairo (AUC) where she taught Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) and Egyptian Colloquial Arabic to learners of different levels of proficiency. Following that, she taught MSA at the University of Glasgow, UK. She has an MA in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL) from AUC, and a second MA in Translation Studies from the University of Birmingham. She has also worked in Arabic translation for the private and public sectors in the United Kingdom and the Middle East.

  • Master of Arts in Teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language (TAFL). American University in Cairo, Egypt.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and Psychology (With Highest Honours). American University in Cairo, Egypt.

Biography

Noha has a broad experience in teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language, both in higher education institutions and as a private tutor. She has taught learners of different proficiency levels, and to a wide range of students including undergraduates, postgraduates, and the public.

Her special interest lies in the area of content creation and material development for teaching Arabic as a Foreign Language, and the use of digital technologies in face-to-face and online language teaching.

Teaching

Noha currently teaches the following modules at the Department of Modern Languages:

▪ IWLP Arabic Language – Levels 2A/2B

  • IWLP Arabic Language - Levels 3A/3B

She is also developing the Arabic language content for the University of Birmingham’s Digital First project.

Research

Noha’s research focuses on the design and development of TAFL material. She is especially interested in the use of digital technologies in language teaching.
