Dr. Turner is a postdoctoral research fellow working in the lab of Prof. Andrew Filer. He currently provides bioinformatic support for the lab along with performing wet lab experiments generating RNA-sequencing datasets and validating findings from this work. His work spans several autoimmune diseases including rheumatoid arthritis, Sjögren’s disease, and systemic lupus erythematosus.

Biography

Dr. Turner completed his undergraduate studies in Biological Sciences at Plymouth University in 2011. He began working as a research technician in the lab of Prof. Filer before beginning his doctoral studies which he successfully completed in 2017. Since then, he has continued to work as a postdoctoral research fellow in the Filer lab whilst developing his own research interests.

Teaching

• BSc Biomedical Science Year 3: Immunity and Inflammatory Disease
• ICS Rheumatology & Orthopaedics
• R Software Carpentry

Research

  • Stratification of immune disorders using process modules common/private to disorders
  • Stromal immunology, in particular the role of stromal subsets in the healthy immune response and disease and how stromal responses and subsets vary across tissues
  • Transcriptomics data analysis, particularly single-cell RNA sequencing and leading-edge developments, and working in the R programming language
  • Platforms and methods for easing access and interpretation of big data by colleagues without computational ability
  • Merging transcriptomic data with wet-lab validation and spatial assignment of transcriptomic data
