I am the lead for Award and Recognition and the institution’s Teaching Excellence Award Lead (TEAL) for Advance HE. As the Award and Recognition lead, I am leading on raising the profile of education at the institution. I am the lead for Personal Academic Tutoring, supporting staff to develop their expertise in Personal Academic Tutoring. I am a mentor and assessor for the Beacon HEA Professional Recognition Scheme, and I teach across a number of programmes including the Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education. I co-lead the Reflective Academic module which part of the Academic Development Programme (ADP) for early career academics.

I am passionate about developing and supporting teaching and learning practice that enhances the quality of the staff and student learning experience. My areas of particular interest are: problem based learning, inclusive teaching and learning, personal tutoring and the student experience. 

I have a liaison role with the College of Life and Environmental Sciences. I am a Senior Fellow of the HEA and a Recognised Senior Advisor of UKAT. I have a leadership role with the UK Advising and Tutoring Association (UKAT) and I am the lead External Examiner for the University of Wolverhampton’s HEA Scheme.

Biography

I have been teaching in higher education for 13 years having previously been a Primary School teacher. I was an Academic Development Partner at De Montfort University for 2 years leading the HEA professional recognition scheme, Personal Tutor development and training and Continuing Professional Development.  Before that I was a Senior Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education at the University of Derby leading the BEd (Hons) Primary Education programme. I joined the University of Birmingham in June 2018. In 2020 my work with UKAT was recognised as I received an Outstanding Contribution Award for outstanding dedication and service coordinating publications, coordinating, mentoring, and assessing for the Professional Recognition scheme, and as a committee and working groups member. I am passionate about continuing professional development to develop and enhance professional practice to encourage and empower colleagues.
