Dr Tahmina is an excellent interdisciplinary researcher situated at the intersection of society and environment, sustainable transition, policy and governance. She is currently involved with the Centre for Environmental Research and Justice (CERJ) and the Birmingham Institute for Sustainability and Climate Action (BISCA). In various research roles within Birmingham, previously she worked as a fellow for the Leverhulme Trust, NERC and the Institute for Global Innovation.

Teaching

Dr Tahmina teaches into third year and Masters’ module includes Environmental Geopolitics and Governance; Urban Environments in the Global South; Geopolitics and Globalization.

Research

My research interest includes human-environment interactions and
processes, development interventions, urban geography,
environmental and water resource governance, complexity and
resilience thinking, stakeholder engagement and power dynamics,
emergency management, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and
climate change adaptation (CCA) and resilience capacity with a
focus on global south development.
 

Other activities

Dr Tahmina has more than five years’ experience in working as a frontline development worker actively engaged in Disaster Management and emergency capacity building initiatives at various international humanitarian organisations (e.g., Oxfam, Red Cross) alongside fulfilling various research-intensive roles. She has ongoing collaboration in Bangladesh and India (academic and NGOs) and has provided her opportunities to work as an external consultant in relevant policy and research projects. She worked in several PhD and Masters’ supervision teams in the UK, Australia, Bangladesh and India.
