Research

The growing adoption of open spatial data generated by citizens as a result of the rise of

volunteered geographic information (VGI) had reshaped the intermediation between
government and citizens. The power of the open data as well as the role played by
intermediaries using geo-ICT amplifies information disclosure and transparency. It potentially
fostering a more responsive and accountable government to further public aims. However,
there could be unexpected contradictory effects. This research aims to analyse the effects of
the transparency initiatives where open spatial data generated by citizens and geo-ICT
intermediaries involved and propose ways to adapt to wicked effects in transparency
initiatives.
