Dr Nabeel Khan is an Associate Professor of Cyber Security at the University of Birmingham, Dubai, where he leads the MSc Cyber Security programme. He holds a PhD in Computer Science and an MSc in Networking and Data Communication from Kingston University, London. His research focuses on cloud and network security, IoT challenges, and the applications of machine learning in cyber security. Dr Khan has served in academic leadership roles, contributed to EU and UK research projects, and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He also serves as an external examiner for cybersecurity programmes in the UK.

Biography

Dr Nabeel Khan is an Associate Professor of Cyber Security at the Dubai campus of the University of Birmingham, where he leads the MSc Cyber Security program. He earned his PhD in Computer Science from Kingston University, London, where his research was part of an industrial project funded by DoCoMo Eurolabs, Munich. He also holds an MSc in Networking and Data Communication from Kingston University, London. Dr Khan's research interests are centred around cyber security, particularly in the domains of cloud security, network security, and the application of machine learning to the cyber domain. His expertise extends to the security challenges posed by the Internet of Things (IoT), multimedia communications, and the compression and transmission of neuromorphic vision sensor data. Throughout his career, Dr Khan has held several academic and leadership positions, including his recent role as Senior Lecturer and Cybersecurity Program Director at the University of Chester. He has contributed to the advancement of cybersecurity education by continually enhancing curriculum, teaching methods, and research initiatives. Dr Khan has been a lead researcher in European Union's Research and Innovation projects (Horizon 2020) and leading UK Research councils such as EPSRC. His research has resulted in numerous high-quality publications, particularly on topics related to cloud and network security, video compression, and quality of experience (QoE) in multimedia services. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and is currently serving as an external examiner for cybersecurity programs at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge and University of Roehampton, London. Additionally, Dr Khan is actively involved in supervising MSc and BSc students, mentoring their research in cloud security, machine learning, and secure system design.
