Derek Fallon qualified from University College Dublin in 1988 with a B.A. (Hons) in English and History. After a period of time teaching English in Spain, Derek returned to University College Dublin to complete an M.A. in English in 1991. He spent a period of time teaching in New York, USA before spending eight years in charge of the English programme at a hospital training centre in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he completed a Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.
Derek’s next qualification was a PGCE in Primary Education and he then spent eight years as a primary school teacher in Birmingham, UK. In 2011, he went to Al Ain, UAE where he spent five years as an English faculty member at the HCT Women’s College. Upon returning to the UK, Derek spent two more years as a primary school teacher before taking up a post at Birmingham University as an EAP Lecturer on pre-sessional courses for Business English students. He took up his current post at University of Birmingham Dubai in September 2018.
