Marvyn is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at Birmingham, having joined the institution in February 2024. Previously, he was an Associate Professor of Marketing at Kingston University London, where he held several leadership roles, including School Head of Department and Programme Director of Marketing & Communication degrees.
Marvyn is recognized as a Senior Teaching Fellow with UK Advance HE (SFHEA) and has received multiple awards for his innovative and inclusive approach to learning and teaching. He is also a Professional Certified Coach (PCC) accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
His research interests include brand positioning, regulatory focus and mode, place branding, and the effects of context on consumer perceptions and behaviour. Marvyn is also actively involed in the scholarship of learning and teaching.
Marvyn’s educational journey spans the Caribbean, US, UK and the UAE. He has worked in the private sector and completed his doctoral studies with support from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
Before transitioning to academia, Marvyn held executive positions in sales and marketing at IBM Caribbean, and Ford and Mitsubishi Automotive in the US. He continues to be involved in consultancy projects across various sectors, including retail and FMCG.
