Biography

Prior to joining the University as a lecturer, Noshaba has been a Secondary Science teacher for 10 years where she has held leadership positions on a pastoral, subject and department level. As Birmingham Alumni Noshaba completed her BSc, PGCE and MEd at the University and is now pursuing a PhD within the School of Education. Noshaba worked in Qatar for 3 years as Head of Science at an International school where she developed a keen interest in Science curriculum change and staff development. It was through this that she organised the first Heads of Science “Teach Meet” in Qatar and launched a ‘Biology Buddies’ mentoring programme.

Prior to this, she held roles as Head of Biology and Head of Year 11 in two large UK schools. Her move to the University of Birmingham came from a passion for Science Teacher development whilst mentoring staff to work towards leadership roles, as well as her experiences of being a professional and subject mentor in Birmingham schools. Her other interests include student motivation and engagement in Science, the use of feedback in classrooms and bridging the generational gap between staff and students. Noshaba has presented at teaching conferences in the UK, Qatar, Abu Dhabi and Dubai and most recently presented on ‘Understanding Gen Z, implications for Science Teaching and Learning’ at the Abu Dhabi Teaching Conference 2019 as well as the Middle East Teaching conference 2020.

As a consultant member of the ASE, Noshaba regularly attends regional Science CPD as a delegate and a presenter; fostering an ethos of continuous collaborative development in Secondary Science as well as keep abreast of recent developments in subject specific pedagogy and content delivery in Secondary Science.
