Joining the University of Birmingham as an Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, College of Medicine and Health, Dr. Jibran brings his expertise to further advance the field of Human Anatomy in education and cancer epigenetics in research.

Biography

Jibran is a medical doctor with a Ph.D. in medical life sciences from Japan and has previously served as an Associate Professor of Human Anatomy and Cell Biology in the College of Medicine, University of Sharjah UAE. With over a decade of experience in teaching human anatomy and cell biology at three medical schools across three countries to students from diverse cultural and academic backgrounds, Jibran has established himself as a distinguished educator.

As a researcher, Jibran focuses on understanding the role of epigenetic modulation in carcinogenesis and infectious diseases. He has secured several research grants from external funding agencies and published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, earning recognition such as the National Scholar Award from the United European Gastroenterology Association, the Promising Young Researcher Award from the King Hussein Cancer Foundation in Jordan and the Al Jalila Foundation in Dubai.

Teaching

Postgraduate supervision

Jibran has successfully supervised multiple MSc and PhD students during his time at the University of Sharjah, UAE. Two of his students received the Best Thesis Award, and one was awarded a dual degree from the University of Lübeck, Germany. He is actively recruiting postgraduate and doctoral research students in the following programs:

  • Ph.D. Cancer Research

Research

Research interests: Epigenetic modulation in carcinogenesis, immune disorders and infectious diseases.

Current projects:

  • Understanding the role of epigenetic reprogramming in carcinogenic transformation of liver and colon cells.
  • Investigating the use of epigenetic modifiers as chemo-sensitisation agents in gastrointestinal cancers.
