Enrico is an Assistant Professor in Nursing.
He also holds an honorary appointment as Senior Lecturer at the Academy of Nursing, Exeter University (UK).

Biography

Enrico has extensive professional experience in nursing practice and education within both pre-registration and post-graduate academic settings. He has worked in various NHS environments in Italy and the UK, specializing in critical care nursing.

After earning his doctorate in social psychology and educational research, he advanced his career in research and education, contributing to the universities of Parma and Novara in Italy, and more recently, Exeter University.

Enrico has researched and published findings on several topics, including the impact of touch interactions in caregiving, interprofessional education and care, palliative and end-of-life care, and the role of spirituality in care. He strongly believes in the value of interdisciplinary, international, and multi-method research, which has led him to participate in international projects in the USA, Thailand, and Ghana.

Teaching

Postgraduate supervision

Enrico’s expertise in qualitative research methods has led him to working with research students on various subjects (ICU and End-of-Life Care, Spirituality in Nursing, Art Based methods in Nursing Education).

He is interested in supervising research students in the following areas:

  • Interprofessional Education and Care
  • Spiritual Care
  • Care of the Older Person (care home and social care research)
  • Palliative and End-of-Life care 

Research

Currently, his research interests focus on the care of older adults and LGBTQ+ aging, specifically on improving social care settings for the workforce and enhancing the quality of life for older individuals living with dementia.

He is the PI of the following projects:

  • a Qualitative research project on “Ghanian Nurses perception of ethical challenges in caring for older citizens”. Funded by THET organization and in collaboration with the University of Ghana.
  • “Learning the narratives and expectations of health and care needs for LGBTQ+ older people”. Organisation and design of Community engagement events for PPIE.  GW4 Funded Project

Other activities

  •  Editorial Board member of the International Journal of Qualitative Methods and Nurse Education in Practice.
  • Member of the National Institute for Health and Research (NIHR) Nursing and Midwifery Inclusion Group.  
  • Co-editor of the special issue “Palliative and End of Life Care in the Post-Pandemic Era: Old Problems and New Perspectives” in Frontiers of Medical Sociology.
