Laura completed her BDS at the Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry in 2015 on their gradate-entry course. Prior to this, she had gained her BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Science at The University of Sheffield in 2010.
After graduating from Peninsula, Laura then completed her Dental Foundation Training in South Yorkshire. Following this, she went on to complete her Dental Core Training in a range of specialties, including:
- Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
- Community Dentistry
- Dental Public Health
- Paediatric Dentistry
- Orthodontics
During this time, Laura gained qualifications in inhalation and intravenous sedation, and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. She also presented several posters at national conferences and published her first academic paper.
After her three years of Dental Core Training, Laura worked in the Community Dental Services in Derbyshire. During this role, she treated adults and children with additional needs, utilising her sedation and anxiety management skills. In addition to her clinical duties, Laura also acted as the regional environmental lead and an employee representative for the service.
Laura now works as a Clinical Lecturer in Paediatric Dentistry at the University of Birmingham. She is involved with teaching and supervision of undergraduate BDS student clinics. She is also undertaking her speciality training in Paediatric Dentistry and will start her PhD in 2022.
