Dr Sui is a MedTech/HealthTech innovator and consultant with dual PhDs and an MBA-global health. He currently works at the West Midlands Health Tech Innovation Accelerator (WMHTIA).

Dr Sui provides both technical and business expertise to >30 companies and organisations. He devotes himself in the whole innovation journey, including the initial innovation, commercialising innovations, investing innovations and the final adoption into global health system. He aims to accelerate innovations and apply entrepreneurial skills to enhance the quality of healthcare services and address the global health challenges.

In addition to his role at WMHTIA, Dr Sui is a Research Fellow at the Healthcare Technologies Institute at the University of Birmingham. He has an academic research portfolio, with 12 published papers and 2 patents across diverse fields, including orthopaedics, biomaterial, nanotechnology, imaging and microencapsulation.

His industrial R&D work includes projects with leading FMCG companies, including Unilever, Firmenich, and Philips UK. Notably, he solved a critical problem in the FMCG sector through technological innovation, resulting in a patented solution that has garnered interest from more than 20 national and international companies.

Biography

Dr Sui was awarded an MBA in Global Health (with distinction) from the Global Business School for Health at University College London in 2024. He completed his first PhD in Biomaterials at Hefei National Laboratory for Physical Sciences at the Microscale, University of Science and Technology of China in 2017, followed by a second PhD in Chemical Engineering from the University of Birmingham in 2018. In addition to his academic achievements, Dr Sui also attended executive courses in Venture Capital Fundamentals at London Business School and Leading Digital Transformation in Health Care at Harvard University in 2024.

Dr Sui is currently working at the West Midlands Health Tech Innovation Accelerator (WMHTIA) and has been active in the entrepreneurial environment for over four years, providing both technical and business advice to >30 companies and organisations.

In 2024, Dr Sui was invited as an Investment Mentor to represent WMHTIA at the Asian Financial Forum (AFF). He joined a consulting project to assist the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health in building an innovative national health system. He also acts as a contributor to establish the Global Health & Digital Innovation Foundation.

Additionally, Dr Sui is affiliated with the Healthcare Technologies Institute (HTI), an interdisciplinary network of over 70 academics working together to advance new technologies and treatments that promote better tissue healing and rehabilitation tools. His technological expertise contains calcium-based biomaterials and their bio-applications, pathological bone formation and its diagnosis, as well as microencapsulation and its applications. He has collaborated with global companies, including Unilever, Firmenich, and Philips.
