Dr Hassan Ali has published more than 40 research papers in prestigious scientific journals and conferences primarily focused research areas of condensation heat transfer, nano fluids and indirect evaporative cooling.

He has over 15 years of experience in teaching, research, management. He has the experience of initiating engineering programmes, and worked at mid/senior management roles that provided him the opportunity to have holistic insights and oversights of program leadership.

Dr Ali carries global context as well as significant understanding of UAE higher education market as he has been responsible for programme development, community engagement, curriculum development and lead research/dissertation projects. He has been conducting research focusing on cross cutting themes of economic, technical, social, political challenges and stresses related to renewable energy and sustainable development.

Biography

Hassan is qualified with a Ph.D. in condensation heat transfer enhancement from the Queen Mary, University of London. He worked with Professor John Rose, Adrian Briggs and H.S. Wang on the development of compact condensers using Marangoni Condensation of stem-ethanol mixtures.

He has extensive experience of initiating, managing and teaching in UG and PG programs in Pakistan, United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates.

More recently, he has been actively working in sustainable air conditioning. He has developed a series of prototypes employing indirect evaporative cooling obtaining very interesting results and useful findings.

Hassan has also been actively working with UAE industry regarding several aspects of energy and sustainable development such as water efficiency, embodied carbon, decarbonisation strategies and building energy to a wider audience ranging from Industry professionals to school students.

In his free time, he tries to read and understand Nietzsche, Kafka and Jaun Alia.

Teaching

Hassan has been teaching core engineering modules related to fluid mechanics, thermodynamics and heat transfer. Regarding renewable energy and sustainable development, he has been teaching the following modules:

  • Refrigeration and (Sustainable) Air-Conditioning
  • Carbon Accounting and GHG Protocol

Other activities

He is currently working on development of Policy Guidelines for building retrofits in UAE and TM 65 “Embodied Carbon Calculation” for UAE.
