Dr Will Lester is a Consultant Haematologist at University Hospitals Birmingham and clinical service lead for Birmingham Women’s Hospital haematology laboratory and fetal anomaly screening service. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Cardiovascular Sciences, University of Birmingham.
He is a principal investigator for multiple clinical trials including a phase 1 Haemophilia gene therapy study. Areas of clinical an academic interest include Haemostasis and Thrombosis, Immuno-haematology and Obstetric Haematology. He has published multiple scientific papers in the NEJM, Lancet, Nature Medicine and Blood. In 2022, he was co-recipient of a Royal College of Pathology Achievement award for his work on VITT. He is chair of the NEQAS blood coagulation steering group, co-chair of the UKHCDO laboratory working party and vice chair of the British Society of Haematology H&T taskforce. He has been an invited speaker for multiple national and international societies and regularly contributes to national guidelines for multiple organisations including NICE.
