Jocelyn is a Daphne Jackson Fellow, pleased to be back to research after a career break, funded by the British Heart Foundation. She is a Biochemistry graduate from Oxford University, with PhD and postdoctoral experience at Birmingham and Maastricht Universities.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Medicine, University of Birmingham, 2006
  • MBioch in Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry, University of Oxford, 2002

Biography

Jocelyn entered the cardiovascular research field in 2001 as an undergraduate student at the University of Oxford.  Her subsequent PhD at the University of Birmingham was supervised by Professor Steve Watson and funded by the British Heart Foundation.  This included a Marie Curie Fellowship for a research project at Maastricht University in 2003, supervised by Professor Johan Heemskerk.  Jocelyn started her first postdoctoral position in 2005, funded by the Wellcome Trust.  She is author on 22 publications between 2003 and 2010, and gave numerous oral and poster presentations at international meetings and conferences.  Jocelyn began a career break in 2009, before returning to research in 2024 as a Daphne Jackson Fellow, funded by the British Heart Foundation, supervised by Dr Steve Thomas and Dr Natalie Poulter.

Research

Jocelyn’s research interests lie in thrombosis, specifically in understanding the detailed interactions between platelets, blood vessels and other cells.  Her PhD involved identifying the roles of many specific cytoskeletal proteins and signalling pathways underlying thrombosis in an in vitro flow model.  Her postdoctoral work took this further to confirming the importance in in vivo mouse models.

Jocelyn’s current project involves incorporating endothelial cells into an in vitro microfluidic flow model, to develop a tool for application of novel imaging techniques.
