Yongli achieved his PhD in economics at the University of Leicester in 2020. He worked as a lecturer at the University of Essex since October 2019 before he joined the University of Birmingham on March 2022. Prior to joining the Birmingham Business School, Yongli heavily involved in teaching economics modules in macroeconomics and econometrics, and administration duties at Essex, such as the deputy director of the undergraduates’ final project and the deputy director of the PGT dissertation.

He has published work in the Journal of International Money and Finance and the Journal of Forecasting. His research interests include time-series forecasting under uncertainty, structural breaks, and inflation modeling.
