Dr. Veselina Stoyanova holds the position of Associate Professor in Strategy & International Business and serves as the DL MSc International Management Programme Director at the University of Birmingham, Business School. With a recognized academic career, she is dedicated to exploring the dynamic intersections of strategy, international entrepreneurship, and the cultivation of social impact and sustainability. 

In her role as an educator, Dr. Stoyanova excels in executive education, focusing on enhancing organizational capabilities to effectively address pressing challenges, such as sustainable development, migration and poverty alleviation. Her expertise includes areas such as stakeholder engagement, organizational change, offering valuable insights into strategic development and adaptation, especially in times of uncertainty and complexity. In her work, Dr Stoyanova explores the orchestration process of strategic resources and the pivotal role of dynamic capability development, examining their micro-foundations in the complex landscape of organizational dynamics. 

Dr Stoyanova research work has been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Management, Technological Forecasting and Social Change, Journal of International Management, Management and Organisation Review, International Small Business Journal, Business & Society journal. Her scholarly impact extends globally, being recognised in the prestigious Poets & Quants Best MBA Professors 40 under 40 in the World, Notably, she stands as one of the few distinguished female UK academics acknowledged in this prestigious list, affirming her reputation as a respected academic in her field.

Biography

Before joining the University of Birmingham's Business School, Dr. Veselina Stoyanova served as an Assistant Professor in Strategy and Organisation at the University of Strathclyde, Business School, UK. She has also held significant positions internationally, including a Visiting International Professor role at the University of Strasbourg, EM Strasbourg Business School in Strasbourg, France, and a Distinguished Overseas Scholar position at Chongqing Technology and Business University (CTBU) in China. 

Dr. Stoyanova holds a PhD in Management with a focus on Strategy from the University of Edinburgh Business School, which is accredited by AACSB, EQUIS, and AMBA. During her doctoral studies, she was awarded the prestigious University of Edinburgh Principal’s Development PhD scholarship. Additionally, she earned an MSc with Distinction in International Business and Emerging Markets from the University of Edinburgh Business School (UK) and a BA (honours) in International Business with a Marketing focus from Ramapo College of New Jersey, USA. Her undergraduate studies were supported by a four-year full-time merit Presidential scholarship. 

Beyond her academic achievements, Dr. Stoyanova has applied her expertise as a business sustainability consultant in the financial service sector in the UK, where she provided company managers with valuable guidance to companies on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) matters. Dr. Stoyanova is frequently invited to share management expertise and consult leading business organisations in her native Bulgaria. Internationally, Dr. Stoyanova has also been honoured with invitations to deliver expert talks and share research insights in Japan, China, India, Colombia, Singapore, Finland, USA, Germany, France and Bulgaria.

Dr. Stoyanova welcomes the opportunity to supervise research students with a research interest in:

Dr. Stoyanova actively contributes to the academic community by serving as a reviewer for esteemed academic journals, including the Journal of Management Studies, California Management Review, Journal of World Business, Business & Society, and the British Journal of Management, among others. Most recently, she served as a co-editor for the special issue on "Strategic Societal Engagement: Multidisciplinary Approaches toward the Alleviation of Poverty" in the Journal of Strategy and Management. Dr. Stoyanova is also an active member of the Strategic Management Society, the Academy of Management, the European Group of Management Studies (EGOS), and the British Academy of Management
