Biography

Yusuf received his PhD in Finance from the University of Reading. His data-intensive research investigated the relationship between trading and market quality on UK’s equity markets where he analysed trading styles, particularly High Frequency Trading & Algorithmic Trading, and their impact on liquidity and volatility.

In his research, he also worked along with a group of leading academics and consultants to conduct an extensive empirical study on the relative riskiness of two UK equity markets run by the London Stock Exchange. In “Risk and Trading on London’s Alternative Investment Market: The Stock Market for Smaller and Growing Companies”, his collaborative work presents compelling evidence that challenges the perception of AIM’s riskiness.

Earlier in his career, Yusuf held professional positions in financial services and consulting for five years. Some of the work regarding his roles in banking and public services involved data analysis, project management and audit. Prior to joining the University of Birmingham, he worked as a sessional lecturer at Henley Business School where he designed and ran Programming for Finance workshops for postgraduates. He also has experience of teaching on a wide range of modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Financial Markets and Quantitative Finance.
