Dr Mojgan Rabiey is experts in molecular plant-microbe interaction. She works on biological control of tree diseases caused by bacteria. Her main interest is the evolution of tree pathogenic bacteria and bacteriophages, and how bacteriophages can be utilised as an alternative to antibiotics to control fungal and bacterial diseases in plants.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Plant Pathology
  • M.Sc in Plant Pathology
  • B.Sc in Plant Protection

Biography

Dr Mojgan Rabiey completed her PhD at University of Reading, where she worked on biological control of Fusarium diseases of wheat (head blight and root rot diseases) using endophytic fungi. Her two postdoctoral career at Reading focused on the biological control of plant diseases; one using a rust pathogen to control population of invasive weed species and another one using bacteriophages to control tree bacterial diseases. She then moved to University of Birmingham to work on how new strains of Pseudomonas syringae bacterial pathogens emerge and evolve on potential hosts using cultivated and wild cherry trees. In addition, she wants to understand how readily gene exchange mediated by phages occurs between P. syringae strains.

Research
