Biography

I have been teaching social science and humanities subjects in the higher and further education sectors for nearly 25 years. Having completed my doctoral thesis in 2004, I taught at the University of Warwick, the Open University, and most recently at King Edward VI College where I was Curriculum Leader for Law and Social Sciences and Foundation Programme Lead. My research interests include migration, identity, diversity/inclusion in education, and decolonisation of the curriculum. I am currently a writer and reviewer for the Level 3 Access to Higher Education Diploma working on the Diasporic Studies subject set. I am a Member of the Chartered College of Teaching and, having taught students from 16-80 years of age, I love finding new ways to support students in their learning and reaching their potential.

Teaching

I am currently Module Lead for Empire, Migration, and Diversity and have also taught on the module Understanding Society.

I jointly established the BIA’s What Works teacher development programme and co-run a series of development sessions led by colleagues across the BIA to share good practice and support each other in maintaining teaching excellence.
