Michelle is currently working as a research fellow with an interest in public health research. Working in Applied Health Sciences, Michelle is delivering on an NIHR funded interdisciplinary project exploring gambling-related harms. This project aims to review the effects of interventional public health law, explore population level harms, and develop a core outcome set to guide public health interventions. The wider agenda of this work aims to better address the need for urgent public health intervention for gambling related harms.

Biography

Michelle's research interests include perinatal mental health, youth mental health and public health interventions, and she has a passion for qualitative and mixed methods research, systematic reviewing and stakeholder/public engagement.

Michelle joined UoB after finishing her PhD in Applied Health at University of Warwick. Michelle was awarded the prestigious Warwick Medical School scholarship to deliver her doctoral research, focused on paternal perinatal mental health; exploring the component of interventions for improving mental health outcomes for new and/or expectant fathers.

Michelle has worked on several NIHR funded projects concerning youth mental health, and she is interested in Patient and Public Involvement (PPI) and utilising service user, service provider and key stakeholder experiences to inform research design and outcomes. Also, health technology and the role of technology in improving efficiency for child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS). 

Alongside Michelle's research role, she enjoyed teaching; specifically facilitating case-based learning within health and medical sciences at the University of Warwick.

In addition to her academic career, Michelle has a diverse working background spanning several years working in the charity sector and social services. She has worked extensively with under-served communities, which has given her the expertise to engage with hard-to-reach populations, which is something she is very passionate about.

Throughout her career, Michelle remains a strong advocate for enabling better health outcomes for under-served communities.
