After completing his MBChB at University of Birmingham, Dr Fenton completed the Foundation Programme and Core Medical Training within the West Midlands Deanery, before commencing his specialty training in Renal Medicine and General Internal Medicine in 2012. In 2014 to 2018 he held a Clinical Research Fellow position at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, supervised by Professor Paul Cockwell, in which he used data from chronic kidney disease (CKD) cohort studies to evaluate several novel prognostic factors in CKD, which formed the basis of his PhD and led to numerous publications and presentations. In 2020 he was awarded the NIHR CL post in Renal Medicine, in which his main focus will be on an evaluation of the use and validity of the Kidney Failure Risk Equation in the UK primary care population.
