Bircan is a qualitative and mixed-method researcher specialising in Migration, Community Engagement, and Equity, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EEDI), with a particular focus on the identity and belonging of migrants without migration experience, and consensus methodology. Currently, Bircan is working with the Biostatistics, Evidence Synthesis, Test Evaluation and prediction Models (BESTEAM) on developing guidance for the evaluation, regulation, marketing, and monitoring of digital technologies at Public Health, University of Birmingham.
Bircan's PhD research at the Institute for Research into Superdiversity (IRiS) explored how migrants without migration experience and members of diaspora communities navigate their intersecting identities and sense of belonging. This research has been central in shaping her ongoing examination of these complex social dynamics. At IRiS, Bircan contributes to community engagement projects, focusing on public involvement to shape policy and practice.
