What the study involves - with Dr Eduardo Martinez-Valdes

We are looking for people aged 18-55 with patellar tendinopathy for a study. This study will compare a new treatment to traditional NHS treatments to see which is better at reducing pain and disability.

Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups:

  1. Lab-based group: You will visit the lab 2-3 times a week for six weeks for training with visuo-motor torque feedback.
  2. Home-based group: You will do eccentric exercises at home twice daily for six weeks.

All participants will visit the lab for a baseline test and again at weeks 3 and 6. You will perform knee extension exercises for assessments and training (lab group only). Home-based participants will use a decline board for single-leg squats. We will also use ultrasound and adhesive patches to measure muscle and tendon activity.
