'The PGA Placements on the AGMS course were a great way of building confidence, earning a reputation and eventually gaining a job after graduation.'
Laurence Brotheridge
Current role
Certified David Leadbetter Golf Instructor (IMG Academies)
Career experiences
After graduation I was offered a teaching position at La Manga Club Spain where I taught during my PGA placements. In 2007 I was approached by IMG about becoming a David Leadbetter golf instructor. I have coached at DLGA Austria and also at the DLGA Junior headquarters in Bradenton, home of Paula Creamer. Major highlights from joining the DLGA family have been assisting David Leadbetter on the range as well as his senior instructors at Champions Gate, Orlando. My next career move will be as a Certified Instructor for DLGA Spain in 2010. Since my time with the academy I have been fortunate to work with all level of golfers from novice to professionals.

What was the best thing about your time as an AGMS student?
The PGA Placements were a great way of building confidence, earning a reputation and eventually gaining a job after graduation. It is difficult being a full time student but also wanting to be a golf coach. These placements were extremely invaluable.
What were your expectations and experiences of Birmingham?
It’s fair to say that it was very difficult to get bored living in Birmingham! The University campus offers a wide range of facilities which would accommodate most tastes. It also has an enviable reputation both for night life and for receiving a good education.
Advice for current students
If you are certain you want to work in any area of the golf industry there is no better place to go. However, the course is much more challenging than you may originally think!
