Who Cares?
- Dates
- Tuesday 7 March 2023 (16:30-20:00)
Join Ikon and The Exchange for Who Cares? – an evening of exhibitions, community talks and creative workshops based on the research project Why Are We Stuck in Hospital? – a project conducted by the School of Social Policy at the University of Birmingham in partnership with rights-based organisation Changing Our Lives and artist Foka Wolf.
This is an inclusive event and we welcome people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people to join us.
Programme
- Celebrate the launch of Foka Wolf’s new installation Why Are We Stuck in Hospital? that uses bold graphics and declarative captions to raise awareness of the 2,000 people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people who live in hospital settings for long periods of time, often for many years and with no planned date to leave.
-
- Meet Matthew who shares his story, Hospital to Home, with Jayne Leeson, Chief Executive Officer, Changing Our Lives.
- Experiment with UV light in creative mapping workshops, based on the ‘impossible maze’ of the hospital system, designed by Foka Wolf and his collaborator Tat Vision.
- Learn about new policy guidelines based on the experiences of people with learning disabilities, their families and front-line staff in hospitals through a conversation with Jon Glasby, Professor of Health and Social Care, University of Birmingham.
- Explore A Place Called Home, an exhibition showcasing the University of Birmingham’s research themes of adult social care, homelessness and displacement of people. BSL interpreted.
Have your say on Who Cares? by completing a survey when you visit either Ikon Gallery or The Exchange and you could win a signed print by Foka Wolf.
