Adapting the system: the role of practice and senior leaders in embedding strength-based working
Webinar with Robin Miller – Professor and Director of Global Engagement for the College of Social Sciences, and Ewan King, Deputy Chief Executive of SCIE.
The importance of building on people and communities’ strengths is widely recognised across adult social care and increasingly within primary health care too. Such practice is not new as such with such principles reflected in the occupational standards of key professions and the values of voluntary and community organisations. The difference is that we are now seeking to fundamentally redesign the adult care and community health system to ensure that it is planned, coordinated, and delivered to reflect strengths-based principles. This includes co-production with people with lived experience of social care and with communities.
Research by the University of Birmingham and others highlight the many factors that need to be addressed to embed strengths-based practice, and the contribution of leadership to initiate change and sustain in the long-term. This webinar will outline the role of senior and practice leaders, and the leadership behaviours that will support strength-based working across the social care and health system. It draws upon research and practice development including the voices of people with lived experience engaged within these projects.
