How will Nursing interviews work?

The School of Nursing and Midwifery will be conducting all interviews in person. It is important that you read the below frequently asked questions to find out more about how the interviews will work and what you need to do to prepare.

What do I need to do to prepare for my interview?

  • Make a note of the date and time of your interview.
  • Plan your route to the University. Our car parks can fill up very quickly so we highly recommend using public transport or arranging a lift to your interview.
  • Find your photographic identification. Make sure you know where it is and bring it with you on the day.
  • Dress appropriately as you would for any other interview.
  • Keep an eye on your emails as the date of your interview approaches.

How will my interview work?

This year our interviews will be run in an MMI system (Multiple Mini Interviews). There will be 2 cycles of 6 running simultaneously and you will be completing 6 stations in total. At each station you will spend 8 minutes in total- this includes 3 minutes preparation/reading time and 5 minutes with the interviewer. One of these stations will include simple maths calculations (a calculator will not be needed).

How long will the interview take?

We aim to have you at the Medical School with us for a maximum of 1.5 hours in total. After that you will be free to leave.

When will I find out if I have an offer?

We aim to give you an indication of the outcome of your interview within a week after your interview via email.

I need to cancel and rearrange my interview, what do I need to do?

  • Unfortunately we are unable to re-arrange your interview, so you must attend the date and time given. We will only re-schedule if given strong circumstantial reasons such as an interview at another institution on the same day, hospital appointments, weddings, funerals etc. and may ask for documented proof.
  • If you wish to cancel your interview, please contact us as soon as possible so that we can offer someone else your interview slot.

What if I am running late for my interview?

Unfortunately, if you are late to your interview we will not be able to re-schedule. We can put you onto a reserve list for the rest of the day and on the rare occasion that a candidate does not arrive as planned we may be able to accommodate you, but this could involve a long wait and is not guaranteed.

What if I don't have my ID?

If you have not brought a form of ID with you on the day of your interview, we will not be able to proceed with the interview. If you are unable to obtain either a passport or driving license, you will need to contact us at least 1 week before your interview so that we can make arrangements to verify your identity in a different way. Please note that we are unable to make such arrangements on the day of your interview if you arrive without ID.

What if I feel I have been unfairly treated?

If you feel you have been unfairly treated, please do email us and we will be happy to assist.

I have a disability, what support is available for me?

Please email us as soon as possible to let us know if you require any additional support on the day of your interview.

Who do I need to contact in case I have additional questions before my interview?

Please contact nursingadmissions@contacts.bham.ac.uk at least one week before your interview.
