Scholarships and finance 

These scholarships are open to all applicants and they cover all Home tuition fees and a maintenance allowance of approximately £15,900. For exceptional students, International tuition fees are sometimes covered.

All students who are accepted on to our PhD programme will automatically be considered for one of these scholarships.

These scholarships are open to PhD students across the University and are consequently very competitive and only the most qualified students will be entered by the Graduate School of Mathematics. We emphasise that the Graduate School Mathematics and not the student applies for these scholarships. Students accepted to the Graduate School after 31st May of the year of entry cannot be considered for these scholarships. Scholarships may include:

• Alumni Scholarship: open to all full-time postgraduate students (including international students) who are an alumnus or the child of an alumnus of the University of Birmingham, preference given to students reading a research degree. Renewable for up to 3 years. Value of award: Home-rate tuition fees only.
• Dudley Docker Research Scholarship: open only to existing students at The University of Birmingham who have graduated in a Pure or Applied Science and continuing to undertake research at the University in a Science or Engineering field.
• Richard Fenwick Scholarship: open to any full-time postgraduate student. Value of Award: Home tuition and a maintenance allowance.
• AE Hills Scholarship: open to any full-time postgraduate student. Value of Award: Home tuition and a maintenance allowance.
• Santander and University of Birmingham Scholarship: In partnership with Banco Santander, the University of Birmingham is delighted to offer postgraduate scholarships to outstanding candidates from Latin America and USA.
