Thomas graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2019 with a MSci in Mathematics, having specialised primarily in fluid dynamics and partial differential equations (PDEs). He subsequently became interested in numerical solutions to PDE problems, and he has since focused his PhD research on adaptive finite element methods and uncertainty quantification. His minisymposium talk at the 29th Biennial Numerical Analysis Conference in 2023, on "Goal-oriented adaptivity for stochastic collocation finite element methods", won a UKIE SIAM student prize.
Thomas has also assisted with teaching a wide variety of courses including those relating to finance, differential equations, numerical methods and programming (including MatLab and Python).
