Careers events

In the School of Mathematics we take the personal development and career planning of students very seriously and offer a great deal of support to their career planning. Below we summarise the events that are organised for our students and other support that is available. This support is coordinated and organised by the Careers Tutor in the School of Mathematics in collaboration with the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS) team from Careers Network.

Maths careers fair

We organise a careers fair each year, and invite employers who are especially interested in mathematics graduates. This gives students an excellent opportunity to find out more about their career options and to get advice on the application process.

Employers attending the fair in recent years include: Accenture; Barnett Waddingham; Deloitte; GCHQ; Graduate Recruitment Bureau; IBM; King Edward's Consortium; KPMG; Matchtech; Mercer; Office of National Statistics; PricewaterhouseCoopers; Teach First; Tessella; Towers Watson; and University of Birmingham postgraduate courses, including teacher training.

Skills workshops

We organise a series of skills workshops to support our students through the application process.  These workshops are usually run by employers or a member of the EPS team from Careers Network.

Appointments in the Maths Learning Centre

Students can make appointments to see careers advisers in the School of Mathematics and at various other locations on campus.

Careers Network

Careers Network organises many events. Maths students are encouraged to participate to get support with their career planning and to help them through the application process. Current students can find out more on the Careers Network homepage.

For each year group, there is a workshop run by a member of the EPS team from Careers Network to guide students through their career planning.

Our students also receive a fortnightly maths careers e-newsletter with information about graduate and internship opportunities, and careers events.
