Mazurkas, polkas, dumka, and the odzemek, just some of the styles of dance that Dvořák took inspiration from when writing his Slavonic Dances and Czech Suite, both performed in this afternoon concert by the University Symphony Orchestra. The String Orchestra continue the dancing with the opening jig from Holst jovial St Paul’s Suite, followed by a treat for Sherlock Holmes fans.
