Baljinder Singh Atwal graduated from LLB Law in 2015. We spoke to him about his time at Birmingham and how he has put his degree to good use ever since.
“I am currently a trainee solicitor at Trowers & Hamlins LLP Birmingham office and will qualify as a solicitor in 2018. I was brought up in Birmingham, studied at the University of Birmingham, and then the University of Law, and now work in the city centre.
“I studied Law from 2012 to 2015. On top of the core modules through first and second year, in my final year I studied Company Law, Tax Law, Family Law, International Sale of Goods, Intellectual Property and Civil Procedure & Evidence.
“The course gave me a strong foundation into law as a career. I was able to study key concepts and theories which are discussed and used in my job day to day. I learnt a lot of key skills throughout my law degree, such as: organisation – when dealing with several deadlines at the same time; communication – when discussing and debating in seminars; and resilience – when dealing with exams.
“The University of Birmingham has a great reputation nationally and was a natural choice for me. The campus itself is very scenic and is ideal for enjoying university life. Located in the second city, there were so many opportunities to be involved in – both inside and outside the university. The city has gone from strength to strength and continues to attract people from all walks of life at all levels.
“My top tip for anyone looking into applying for the course would be to really research and understand what the course has to offer and what you are actually passionate about. If you enjoy what you study in an environment you are happy in then the university experience will live up to all expectations.”
