Postgraduate study in Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology

Embark on postgraduate study in Classics, Ancient History and Archaeology (CAHA) at the University of Birmingham and become a part of an internationally acclaimed research community.

We bring together the study of Greece, Rome and Egypt. Our staff offer a wide range of expertise in the history, culture, archaeology and languages of the ancient world.

We are also home to the Centre for Byzantine, Ottoman and Modern Greek Studies – the only research centre in the UK which brings all of these subjects together in a single unit.

The Classics department is ranked in the top ten departments of Classics in the country for our performance in the latest Research Excellence Framework exercise 2021 based on research rated 4*, according to Times Higher Education.

The department offers a stimulating and supportive research environment for postgraduate study in all its disciplines. Our postgraduate community is vibrant and students are encouraged to enhance their learning through attendance at events, research seminars and conferences.
