- Wednesday 31 May 2023 (17:00-19:00)
Join us for a public lecture with Professor Tim O'Neill, Managing Director of Children's Services at Action for Children.
Following the independent review of children’s social care (MacAlister 2022), and in the light of the cost of living crisis and the global pandemic, there has rarely been a better time to reflect on the immediate future of children’s social care, the role of charities, and what is required to significantly improve outcomes for children and young people.
Having served as Director of Children’s Services in England’s smallest and largest upper tier local authorities, and as the current Managing Director for Children's Services in Action for Children, one of the UK’s largest children’s charities, Tim will share some of his own experiences and research reflections on charities' role within the children's services sector, his research on charity values, and his thoughts on their future role. He will also look beyond this and offer some thought-provoking and sometimes challenging thoughts on the wider picture and the way in which ‘the system’ supports children and young people in 2022.
