Moving on: Pathways to Adulthood for young people with vision impairment

Location
School of Education, University of Birmingham
Dates
Monday 15 June 2020 (10:00-16:00)

A one-day conference capturing the real life experiences of young people with vision impairment as they make the journey from school to further/higher education and into the world of living and working independently.

Please note this event has been cancelled due to Covid-19.

Delegates will:

  • Hear the findings from the Longitudinal Transitions Study: a 10-year longitudinal study which has been tracking the lived experiences of young people with vision impairment as they have left school and move into further education, higher education, apprenticeships and the labour market.
  • Hear directly from young people with vision impairment about their experiences of post-16 transition. This includes a drama production by UCAN Productions: a performance and creative arts co-operative for blind and partially sighted children, young people and their friends.
  • Hear from policy experts on initiatives to improve the outcomes of young people with SEND as they transition from school into employment.
  • Attend workshops on a range of topics, including careers education and guidance, employment, higher education, technology, mobility and independence.
  • Learn about resources which have been developed to support professionals working with young people with vision impairment.
