Getting over 'nature vs nurture' in education

Social science and new biological explanations of students and learning are often thought of as being in competition. This workshop shares research that brings together current ideas from genetics and social science to re-think how we make sense of children and young people and their experiences of learning.

This ESRC Festival of Social Science workshop invites practitioners working with children and young people in education-related settings – teachers, social workers, youth workers, carers – to find out what new critical bio-social studies has to say about identity and learning and explore implications for policy and professional practice. The workshop will be led by Professor Deborah Youdell who is currently undertaking a British Academy Fellowship synthesising sociological and biological accounts of the subject and learning.
