Research

I am using corpus techniques to determine whether the modern-day discourse of the Quaker faith group is linguistically distinctive in comparison with non-Quaker discourse covering a similar time period. I will examine distinctive features to determine whether these facilitate or impede the communication of Quaker ideas, beliefs and concepts to the wider world. I am particularly interested in the roles played by metaphor, metonymy and semantic sequences in the communicative processes.
