My research builds out from the fallacy that memory is synonymous with media: the common misconceptions that memory is a locatable object to be lost and found, and media can externalize past experiences. My thesis develops a holistic understanding of memory as an emergent process embedded within a vast ecological system of multiple interacting media, drawing a clear distinction between memory and media in order to examine the ways in which they intersect. This interdisciplinary research draws on work across the social sciences, illuminated by the phenomenological insights of contemporary authors of fiction (Kazuo Ishiguro, Margaret Atwood, Don DeLillo).
Research interests include contemporary literature, memory and media studies, cognitive psychology, and digital culture.
