Examining how LGBTQ+ parents experience heteronormativity through the use of parenting policies at work. The research uses semi-structured interviews to try to understand all the varied ways of ‘doing’ parenting within the LGBTQ+ community.
Lowri Evans is an ESRC 1+3 PhD student at the University of Birmingham. Lowri’s research focuses on the performance of heteronormative gender roles and LGBTQ+ identity alongside the use of parenting policy within the UK.
Lowri has worked as Research Assistant for the University of Birmingham for several years as part of the Equal Parenting Project, which aims to improve the use of family-friendly policies in the UK and encourage equality in the workplace. As part of this Lowri has worked on Government and Higher Education research projects such as the development of the 'Fathers in the Workplace Toolkit' which was launched in the House of Commons in March 2019.
More recently she was involved in a collaborative project undertaken between the Equal Parenting Project at the University of Birmingham and the Work Autonomy, Flexibility and Work-Life Balance Project at the University of Kent as part of The Working From Home During COVID-19 Lockdown project.
