Students on our BSc Business Management with Communications are encouraged to carry out a PR, Communications or Media-related placement.
This degree is unmistakably vocational in its remit, attracting high calibre students who are working towards a career in Public Relations, Communications or the Media Sector. Students carry out their placement as part of an assessed module providing them with the opportunity to demonstrate their unique blend of communications training combined with a strong grounding in business management.
Our students are trained in:
- Writing a press release
- Key message delivery
- New media solutions for internal or external communications
- Podcast production
- Event management
- Webcast production
- Understanding of social media
The students are taught by senior practicing journalists and PR consultants, using the University's media and television facilities. We therefore have highly motivated, industry aware students to place, who have undergone relevant practical training in communications.
The Communications Placement
Students must work for 100 hours in a public relations or communications capacity. The timing of the placement is very flexible. They are able to work over the summer between their penultimate and final year, or they can work during term-time outside of their lecture timetable.
