Ahmad Irshaid

Senior Consultant, PwC

MBA Global Banking and Finance 2018

I'm based in Qatar and I am a Senior Consultant with PwC, a leading international advisory and audit firm.

I decided to study for an MBA because I wanted to switch career into Consulting/Advisory, and I wanted to expand my networking opportunities. I choose Birmingham because of the reputation of the university and Birmingham Business School, its triple-accredited MBA programme, the campus and city’s location.

In the University of Birmingham I was in a class of around 35 candidates - very diverse. I met people from the North and South Americas, Europe, Africa, The Middle East, and East Asia. I was also one of the youngest MBA candidates and that exposed me to many older candidates who were a lot more experienced than I was. This brought many different ways of thinking to the class, which added more value to my MBA learning experience.

The way the modules were structured on the MBA challenged me and the different group/individual projects pushed me to think outside of the box, and were a great example of what a real business environment is like.

What are your fondest memories of your time at Birmingham?

The Deloitte Business Challenge held on campus, the Business Simulation module in Stratford-upon-Avon, the people I have met, the MBA cohort (and the cohort’s weekly gatherings at Joe’s Bar on campus immediately after the last Friday lecture!).

What was the highlight of your MBA experience?

The vast networking opportunities, the people I met from the MBA and other programmes, plus the life-long relationships and friendships I built.

How did the Careers in Business Team help you?

They bring a lot of expertise in CV creation and career search.  They were always available whenever I needed support with my job search.

How would you describe the Birmingham MBA Experience in 3 words?

Rich, prestigious, enlightening.

“Make the best out of the programme, build as many networks and friendships as you can as these could last forever. Also, never underestimate yourself when applying for jobs post your MBA journey. You are worth more than you think!”
