Research in the group is loosely gathered into four principal areas:
There are very strong inter-linkages between these areas with much collaborative working, and most members of the group contribute to more than one of the research areas.
The group has a very strong record of winning external research funding; our current research is supported by grants from the UK research councils (NERC, EPSRC, STFC and the MRC), DEFRA, the Environment Agency, the European Union (EU FP-7 and H2020), the Health Effects Institute, Industry (e.g. Eon, BOC), and private sector and charitable organisations (e.g. Volkswagen Foundation; Schlumberger Foundation). We also have strong active research links with organizations in Australia, Belgium, Canada, China, Egypt, Greece, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden, and the USA.
The group is led by Professor Roy Harrison who also leads the Division of Environmental Health and Risk Management (DEHRM), a multi-disciplinary research and teaching centre. Within the EHS research group and DEHRM, a number of MSc and PhD courses are offered, in addition to traditional PhD research degrees.
