The C&E research group is an international leader in RF/Microwave/THz Communications and Sensing Technologies, one of the core areas in Electronic Electrical and Systems Engineering. Our research builds on a long tradition of several decades in Antennas, Applied Electromagnetics, Propagation, Metamaterials and Microwave Engineering, all of which underpin most aspects of modern electronic wireless communication and remote sensing technologies. The group leads a large portfolio of research projects funded by various sources including the UKRI, DSTL, ESA, EU, and a number of Industrial Partners. Our research has led to several patents and commercialisation activities, including spin-out companies and strategic collaboration agreements with major industrial partners. The C&E research cluster currently has three research laboratories – the Emerging Device Technology (EDT), the Metamaterials & Antenna Engineering (MAE) and the Applied Electromagnetics & Propagation (AEP) laboratories.
