The School of Chemistry welcomes applications under a number of schemes, further details of which can be found below.
Prospective applicants considering an academic position as a fellowship holder should consult Dr Liam Cox, the School's Director of Research, in the first instance. For postdoctoral opportunities in individual research groups, please contact appropriate members of staff in our four research units.
Birmingham Research Fellowships
From time to time, the university recruits researchers to Fellowship and Professorial Fellowship positions. If you are interested in these schemes, please contact the School's Director of Research, Dr Liam Cox for more information.
EU Research Grants and Fellowships
We welcome enquiries from chemists from around the globe interested in bringing their research to Birmingham through various EU-funded opportunities that include European Research Grants and Marie Skłodowska-Curie fellowships.
Royal Society
The Royal Society offers a range of Fellowships for scientists from junior postdoctoral level to senior professorship level. Closing dates for each award vary, but can be found on the Royal Society website.
EPSRC Research Fellowship Scheme
EPSRC offers a range of fellowships to support the next generation of leading researchers across the postdoctoral, early and established career stages. The fields of research covered need to be linked to the EPSRC strategic priority areas. Current fellowship areas can be found on the EPSRC website. There is an on-going process to identify the areas supported by fellowships and priority areas will be updated throughout the EPSRC Delivery Plan period. Applicants are expected to hold a PhD or have equivalent research experience; however, there are no eligibility rules based on years of post-doctoral experience or whether you hold (or do not hold) a permanent academic position. There are no nationality restrictions imposed by EPSRC and applications are welcomed from candidates who wish to re-establish themselves after a career break or other period of absence from active research.
The Leverhulme Trust
The Leverhulme Trust offers a number of Fellowships each year, including Leverhulme Early Career Fellowships to support postdoctoral research and a range of Fellowships for experienced researchers. Details of the individual schemes can be found on the Trust’s website.
